Et Tu, Disney?

So, when I wrote that posting yesterday, I thought that would be it on that topic for a while. Then I happened to look up some things that I'd been hearing about teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus.

I wish I could say I was surprised.

  1. Okay, First- I'm not sure if you'll remember me, but this is Erica. You and my older sister Missy dated for a time, while she was in your band. Anyway, I came across your site while doing a search for "Articles of Faith" music...funny how that works. Feel free to check out my blog if you wish to know what I've been up to for the past 15 years or so.-

So back to your post: I’m not surprised a bit either. However, I must say that I am a little upset that no one is putting ANY blame on the adults that were involve in this situation.
Let’s look at the simple facts (taking famous name out of the picture of course)
-Here we have a photographer, a 15 yr old child, a grandmother and a magazine willing to publish a photo shoot.
-The photographer entices the girl, with talk of “artistic photographs” and “the natural body”, into taking her clothes off.
-The Grandmother left at the studio to represent the family’s intentions and protect this child DOES NOTHING! She allows the shoot to continue and even reviews the photographs on the set using words like “artistic” “attractive” and “grown-up” to describe the photo graphs!
-The editor of the magazine does nothing but defends the photographer’s “ART” and chooses to publish the pictures!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE LAW ENFORCEMENT? Why haven’t there been any charges filed? All those photographs are is a bunch of glorified child pornography!
I have five girls! If someone convinced my 15 year old to take her clothes off for a photo shoot…There would not only be legal charges being filed, but a private law suit as well!!!! My mother would be dis-owned and the photographer would be sending my daughter monthly checks for the next 30 years.
Now, I know that there are a lot of people who would say she had a choice. I am the first to admit that a 15 yr old is pretty capable of making her own decisions but like in sooo many other cases I feel that she was manipulated! This girl is only 15 and she even said “Annie wanted it, and you can’t say no to Annie!” Sure she was happy to do it. All of the adults in the studio were telling her how wonderful and beautiful she looked.
Sorry about the book, but you happened to touch on a very sensitive subject for me. It was nice to go through and check out your blog and I may hop back from time to time!

  2. I was more than a bit baffled by that question as well. But then if an anonymous tip comes in on the polygamists, call in the swat team!

And I'm not saying that was wrong. We don't know yet. But I do see the disparity.
